PWSC Code of Conduct for Parents and Players
Youth sports programs, including the Port Washington Soccer Club, play an important role in promoting the physical, social and emotional development of children. It is therefore essential for parents to encourage youth athletes to embrace the values of good sportsmanship. Moreover, parents should be models of good sportsmanship and should lead by example by demonstrating fairness, respect and self-control.
I therefore pledge to be responsible for my words and actions while attending/ playing in a Port Washington Soccer Club game or practice and shall conform my behavior to the following code of conduct:
-
I will set a good example by showing respect, dignity, and sportsmanship at all times.
-
I will not approach a coach, referee or opposing team player or fan before, during, or immediately following a game to voice a complaint.
-
Even though I may not agree with a referee’s call, I will not argue the call. I will accept the call and move on.
-
I will offer applause and cheers of encouragement for both teams following a good play or great effort. I will not boo, taunt, scream, or make comments at or about players, coaches, fans or officials.
-
I will not coach from the spectator’s side during games as this type of behavior confuses the players since my instructions may be different than the coach’s instructions or strategy and can have a detrimental effect on the game.
-
I will not criticize my child or any other child on any part of the player’s game.
-
I will not criticize my child’s coach to other parents. If I am not happy with the coach, I will raise the issue with the coach at an appropriate time.
-
If my child is having difficulties in training or games, I will encourage him to speak to the coach as a first step before I speak to the coach.
-
I will put winning and losing in perspective. Games have winners and losers. I will remind my child about this reality and the need to deal with both outcomes.
-
I will motivate my child through confidence. I will try and identify a positive from every game to help build confidence. A young player’s sense of achievement is the greatest motivator.
-
I will get my child to attend practices and training sessions and games on time. I will notify coach/team manager in a reasonable timeframe that my child will not be able to attend a practice or game.
Persistent irresponsibility and disrespectful behavior will result in sanctions up to and including dismissal from the Port Soccer Club.
I have read, understand, and agree to abide by the Port Washington Soccer Club Code of Conduct. I also agree to accept any actions taken by the Port Washington Soccer Club for failure to abide by the Port Washington Soccer Club Code of Conduct.
